Bridge Foundation, the New Canaan, Connecticut-based humanitarian relief organization announced it is sending an air shipment to Guatemala to the Clinic at San Lucas Mission in San Lucas Toliman, Guatemala.
San Lucas Tolimán is a town of approximately 17,000 people in south-central Guatemala situated on the shores Lake Atitlán. Lake Atitlán is a large, clear, highland lake surrounded by three volcanoes.
Geographically, the Parish of San Lucas, home of the San Lucas
Mission, is comprised of 22 communities varying in size from 20,000 people down to approximately 300 people.
The medical clinic, managed by the San Lucas Mission, provides services that greatly enhance the quality of life for people living in and around San Lucas. Thirty years ago, there were no health care facilities anywhere in San Lucas before the Mission -- or Parroquia, as it is called -- began its work. In 1964, with the support of the Sisters of Notre Dame, a clinic was built to meet the people's needs.
The medical supplies will be shipped from Bridge Foundation's warehouse in Amsterdam. A wide array of essential drugs, medical supplies and disposables is being provided per the needs of the clinic.
