... I have firsthand knowledge and personal experience of [Bridge Foundation's] work in Kosovo, Albania, Turkey and Afghanistan. They were solely responsible for getting more than 25 airlifts into Albania and Kosovo during the Balkan conflict.

During history making hurricane season, Connecticut foundation continues to help

Tuesday, 24 August 2004 00:00

New Canaan, CT - Bridge Foundation, the New Canaan, Connecticut based humanitarian relief organization announced that it had provided the first private humanitarian flight to assist the victims of Hurricane Ivan in Grenada. The Island nation of Grenada was devastated by Hurricane Ivan with more than 90% of the island nation's homes and businesses destroyed or heavily damaged.

The dedicated humanitarian airlift departed Miami International Airport on Saturday September 11th at 10:00am for St. George, Grenada. The airlift carried 54,000 pounds of Infant Formula, Rice, Beans and Cooking Oil. Bridge Foundation worked with the Caribbean Disaster and Emergency Relief Agency (CDERA), the emergency group leading the distribution of relief supplies to Grenada's overwhelmed citizens.

Bridge Foundation volunteer, Michael McCooey with more than 15 years experience in delivering humanitarian aid around the world, related that the level of devastation was unprecedented. "Virtually every family on the island lost their home. It was only through excellent planning on the government's part that the loss of life was not catastrophic."

This donation marked the third in a series of projects to assist communities battered by the history setting hurricane season of 2004. Through Diageo's generosity and support, Bridge Foundation has responded in rapid succession to Florida and Alabama communities devastated by Hurricane's Charley, Frances and Ivan. Additionally, Bridge Foundation has airlifted more than 100,000 pounds of humanitarian assistance to the people of Grenada and Jamaica following Ivan's destructive path.
