New Canaan, Connecticut - Bridge Foundation, the New Canaan, Connecticut based humanitarian relief organization announced it delivered the first of two humanitarian shipments to Pyongyang. 

The Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea, often called the “Hermit Kingdom,” has been almost completely isolated from the world community for more than 50 years.  The country has been plagued by famine, natural disasters and economic mismanagement creating an enormous demand for assistance.   Greatly exacerbating the already dire situation is recent flooding that has devastated the central and southern regions of the country.  Hundreds have been perished and thousands left homeless.

Bridge Foundation is working with the Korean American Private Exchange Society (KAPES) to distribute donations in the affected regions.  Bridge Foundation is providing 10,000 cans of enriched, high-fat milk powder for infants and toddlers.  In addition, Bridge Foundation delivered emergency health kits; each is sufficient to address the basic healthcare needs for 10,000 people for three months; a variety of antibiotics, antimicrobials and more than 1,000,000 multivitamin tablets.   The total donation is valued at $1,400,000.

Bridge Foundation staff plan to visit hospitals, clinics and distribution centers around the capital of Pyongyang in March.

Bridge Foundation has also assisted domestically in Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, Louisiana and West Virginia.   Bridge Foundation is an IRS registered 501©(3) tax exempt organization.
