Bridge Foundation aids Darfur refugees who have fled to neighboring Chad

New Canaan, Connecticut - Bridge Foundation, the New Canaan, Connecticut based humanitarian relief organization announced it delivered a humanitarian flight to assist those affected by on-going hostilities in the war-torn Darfur region of Sudan who have fled to neighboring Chad.

Bridge Foundation's airlift to Abeche, Chad is part of The Darfur Project 2007's Clinton Global Initiative commitment to help those displaced by the conflict in Darfur and Eastern Chad.

Bridge Foundation has partnered with International Medical Corps.  In the face of growing displacement and escalating violence they continue to provide lifesaving primary and secondary health care to over 60,000 Sudanese refugees and 110,000 conflict-affected Chadians.

Bridge Foundation staff personally visited numerous distribution centers including Guereda Hospital (100 miles northeast of Abeche)  and Gaga Refugee Camp located near the Sudanese border.  Gaga Camp is one of the largest in Chad with more than 17,000 refugees.

This is the second of several planned flights to the region. The next flight is planned for Nyala, Sudan in March 2008.

The airlift arrived on Saturday December 15th at 8:00 a.m. into Abeche Airport, eastern Chad.  The flight delivered approximatly 15,000 kilos of disaster relief including antibiotics, anti-malarial’s, anti-protozoal’s, pediatric vitamins and other essential drugs and medical supplies. 

International Medical Corps met the airlift and helped to ensure the rapid deployment of supplies to the areas most in need.

Bridge Foundation's Stephen Skakel and Andrew Hannah and The Darfur Project Founder Christine Ward were on the ground in Abeche, Chad to oversee the distribution of the shipment.


Bridge Foundation was founded in 2002 and has provided emergency aid to Afghanistan, Iraq, Congo, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Haiti, Indonesia, Jamaica and Lebanon. Bridge Foundation has also assisted domestically in Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, Louisiana and West Virginia.   Bridge Foundation is an IRS registered 501©(3) tax exempt organization.
