New Canaan, CT - On June 6, 2004 the Bridge Foundation airlifted urgently needed disaster relief supplies to flood victims in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. The airlift contained nearly 55,000 pounds of beans, rice, cooking oil, infant formula and nutritional supplements. The flight landed in Santo Domingo and continued onto Port-au-Prince. The Bridge Foundation worked with the Embassy of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta in the Dominican Republic. The primary areas of distribution will be the El Cibao region where 17 villages were affected. In Haiti, the Bridge Foundation partnered with Catholic Relief Services. Supplies will be distributed in the southeastern region of the country bordering the Dominican Republic in the area of the port town of Marigot. New Canaan based Bridge Foundation, founded in 2002, is a nonprofit humanitarian aid and development organization which promotes and supports the improvement of human health and nutrition worldwide. The Foundation provides humanitarian assistance directly to people in need, irrespective of race, religion, ethnicity, or political position. Bridge Foundation provides both immediate humanitarian response, as well as, support to indigenous medical practitioners in the form of material assistance, training and education programs within the public health sector. The airlift was underwritten and organized by Stamford-based, Diageo.
